L’Avenir Wine Estate supports World Rugby Referees in Japan

The boutique Stellenbosch Pinotage and Chenin Blanc specialist, L’Avenir Wine Estate, is a proud supporter of World Rugby Referees.

The Rugby World Cup kicks off on 20 September, when Japan takes on Russia in Tokyo. L’Avenir Ambassador and World Rugby Referee, Jaco Peyper (South Africa), will be the match official when the Japanese team plays against Samoa on 5 October in Toyota City. Peyper, as well as other International Referees, including Glen Jackson (New Zealand) and Angus Gardner (Australia), and television match official, Rowan Kitt (England) have all partnered with L’Avenir to co-host wine dinners with winemaker, Dirk Coetzee.

According to Coetzee, there are several similarities and shared values between making fine wine and officiating top level rugby. “I recognize values like precision, fine judgement and in-depth knowledge in the professionalism of World Rugby Referees. These are all critical in winemaking”, explains Coetzee.

L’Avenir’s Single Block Chenin Blanc 2017 was awarded a Diamond trophy at the 2019 Sakura Wine Awards – another top-level international competition that was presented in Japan this year. “Like in the case of our referee ambassador, L’Avenir upholds the highest global standards and it is brilliant to receive recognition – especially in a market that values delicacy and balance, like Japan,” notes Coetzee.
