Pedalling for Pebbles at the Cape Town Cycle Tour

The L’Avenir Wine Estate Cape Town Cycle Tour team enhanced the lives of children in Stellenbosch through the Pedalling for Pebbles initiative. Supported by the French Embassy, the team included the French Consul General in Cape Town, Laurent Amar, and raised funds for education, health and sports development of children in the Stellenbosch Winelands, through Pebbles Project.

L’Avenir started collaborating with Pebbles Project in 2004 and provides day care and after school facilities for all the children on the farm, as well as children from neighbouring properties. Not only has this allowed the children to perform well at school, but it provides their parents with peace of mind, knowing that their children are well looked after in an environment conducive to learning.

Through the L’Avenir Sports Development Initiative, L’Avenir uses sport and professional coaching to enhance the development of the children at L’Avenir’s Pebbles Afterschool Care Centre. Fund raising for Pebbles through the Cape Town Cycle Tour was therefore a natural progression of the project’s focus on sport.

The 2020 team consisted of supporters and ambassadors of L’Avenir. The 2020 L’Avenir Pedalling for Pebbles team was:

  • Antoine Leccia (Advini President)
  • Laurent Amar (French Consul General: Cape Town)
  • Wynand Olivier (Former Springbok Rugby Player)
  • Philip Snyman (Former Blitzboks Captain)
  • Haldane Luscombe (Former Welsh Rugby Player)
  • Michael Collins (South African Ironman)
  • Pieter van Rooyen (Injury Rehabilitation Specialist and Strength & Conditioning Coach at Maties Rugby)
  • Ivan Zimmermann (South African actor and adventurer)

L’Avenir aims to raise at least R1000 per kilometre that the team cycled.
